Inquiry-based Learning

Thomas Carruthers says "a teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary". Very sadly, our traditional ways of teaching discourage initiatives of students through the process of inquiry. It makes the student get less prone to asking questions as they move through their grade levels, they are just expected to listen and repeat the expected answers. Inquiry-based learning should be incorporated in ESL English classroom, which mainly involves the students who lead themselves to explore and understand. Inquiry based learning is not just asking questions, but a way of collecting and filtering data and information, analyze and synthesize into useful knowledge based on memorizable facts and content knowledge. A useful application of inquiry based learning involves many different factors, which are, questions asking, research, writing, critical thinking and digital literacy practices, etc.
