Prompt:

The epitaphs on gravestones are one’s last words to the world—and they’re literally written in stone, from political to humorous (and sometimes both).

1) Please do a research to categorize types/styles of epitaphs in a certain period of time and with examples and then select the one each of your group member feel most unforgettable and explain why.

2) What might they reflect about attitudes toward death? How does the use of epitaphs and what epitaphs say change over time? What might this mean?

Objective:

To have students learn and feel a different function of language and learn about history and humanity in a different way.
